Silencer Central starts shipping suppressors to local dealers in 27 states
November 5, 2026
Silencer Central announced on October 16 that buyers in 27 states can order a suppressor online, have it shipped to a local dealer and potentially walk out with it the same way they would buy a gun. Jared Yanis explains how the program works and what it depends on.
Key points
- Ordering: Customers choose a suppressor, enter a zip code and pick from a network of nearly 20,000 licensed dealers, seeing each dealer's transfer fee first.
- At the counter: The buyer completes a 4473 and a background check, and the sale must comply with state law.
- No Form 4 step: Under ATF's current enforcement position, Yanis says, no separate federal approval form or NFA registration is being enforced for that transfer.
- How it got here: Congress cut the tax effective January 1, an August 5 ruling in Silencer Shop Foundation v. ATF followed, the government did not appeal, and ATF issued nationwide guidance on October 9.
- The limit: Yanis stresses the ruling covered specific plaintiffs and provisions and did not repeal the NFA.
Quick take
This rests on an enforcement position, not a change in the statute, and Yanis ties the trend to that position staying in place. If you are in one of the 27 states, check your state's rules before you order.
