SIG's new M17-SOF shows the P320 platform isn't going anywhere
Despite internet talk that the P320 is being dropped, SIG Sauer announced a new production model at its SIG NEXT event: the M17-SOF. It is the company's special-operations configuration of the Army's Modular Handgun System pistol.
The short version
Soldier Systems Daily reports that SIG set up an example SOF configuration as soon as it won the Modular Handgun System contract in 2018, taking advantage of the design's swappable parts and accessories. Similar enhancements were announced the year before, including the Modular Handgun eXchange and an MHS General Forces Configuration built around commercial off-the-shelf accessories.
The M17-SOF now makes that configuration a production model. It combines an optic-equipped M17 slide, a Coyote Brouwer grip module with a magwell, a threaded barrel and SIG's flat X-Series trigger.
Key points
- Optic: M17 slide fitted with a ROMEO-M17 red dot.
- Grip: Coyote Brouwer M1811 grip module with a magwell.
- Barrel: Threaded 5.5-inch barrel.
- Trigger: Flat X-Series trigger.
- Sights and controls: XRAY3 day/night sights and a GoGun Gas Pedal takedown lever.
Bottom line
For P320 and M17 owners, the takeaway is that SIG is still investing in the platform. Pricing and availability were not in the report; check SIG's M17-SOF page for details.
