I am up early this morning traveling to Wilmington, Delaware to talk about American gun culture and Gun Curious: A Liberal Professor’s Surprising Journey Inside America’s Gun Culture.
Unless it has a long tail (I sincerely hope so!), these next couple of weeks may my final stretch of appearances in connection with and support of the book.
Of course, if you’d like to request me as a speaker for your group or event, please do be in touch. I’m especially interested in connecting with liberal non-gun owners and gun skeptics, two groups who have yet to engage much with my ideas.
Tomorrow I will be following up my talk at the National Firearms Law Seminar with a presentation to the Delaware Firearms Law Seminar. I will again speak about the lessons I learned on my journey, but will also add a bit more personal background and discuss the idea of “Gun Culture 2.0.”
Thursday morning I will be in Charlottesville, Virginia to speak to a graduate seminar at the Batten School of Public Policy about “The Wicked Problem of Gun Violence: From Etiology to Action.” I connected with Professor Brian Williams when I saw he was teaching the course and he assigned Gun Curious to the class. I’m looking to spread some light over heat on the issue and to engage students on this issue.
The grand finale of this leg of my tour will be giving the keynote address at the Liberal Gun Club’s National Meeting in Las Vegas on October 19th. I’m very excited–and proportionately nervous–about this talk because liberal gun owners are my people.
I’m still working on the address but am working around the theme of “The Agony (and Ecstasy?) of Liberal Gun Ownership.” Potentially with the subtitle, or just the theme: “Being Both/And in an Either/Or World.”
