GPO's upgraded RangeGuide 10x50 now ranges out to 3,600 yards
German Precision Optics has refreshed one of its best sellers, the RangeGuide 10x50 rangefinding binocular, with a new laser that reaches out to 3,600 yards. It keeps the compact, 42mm-class size that made the original popular with hunters and long-range shooters.
The short version
GPO USA says the upgraded RangeGuide pairs a new electronic system with next-generation laser technology, extending maximum ranging to 3,600 yards. The Class 1 eye-safe laser returns a reading in about a quarter of a second, and built-in angle compensation gives a corrected distance on steep uphill or downhill shots. GPO also reworked the display for better readability in all light and simplified the mode controls.
The optics are unchanged in approach: double-HD 50mm objective lenses with GPO's GPObright coatings, aimed at low-light clarity. The binocular is built on a magnesium chassis with an armored housing, stands 6.3 inches tall and weighs 35 ounces. It retails for $1,659.99 and is shipping now through authorized GPO dealers. GPO owner and CEO Mike Jensen calls it a cornerstone product made more powerful and easier to use.
Key points
- Range: Maximum ranging distance of 3,600 yards, according to GPO.
- Speed: About 0.25 seconds per reading, with a scan mode giving three readings per second.
- Angle compensation: True Range Angle Technology adjusts the distance for incline and decline and shows the angle.
- Display: OLED readout with nine brightness levels, plus a temperature reading.
- Specs: 5mm exit pupil, 17mm eye relief, 330 feet of field of view at 1,000 yards, waterproof.
- Price: $1,659.99.
Bottom line
For hunters and long-range shooters who would rather carry one device than a binocular and a separate rangefinder, the RangeGuide's longer reach and quicker readings make it worth a look at this price point.
