Scenario: You’re in a dangerous tactical situation, hurrying over wet ground when you lose your footing.
Thankfully, you did hold onto your AR-15. But have you ever shot from the ground up while sitting on your rear or leaning on one elbow? Very awkward and tough to get an optic up to your eyes fast. Even if you manage that, it’s extremely easy to shoot over your target from such a low position, especially when quarter- and half-seconds count.
What to do?
Make sure your EOTech OGL-C’s green visible laser is on, place the dot on target and squeeze the trigger! Target neutralized.
This is just one of the scenarios where EOTech’s newest high-tech unit can deliver the goods — and the rounds.
Slightly larger than a deck of playing cards, the OGL-C is the On Gun Laser Consumer Power version for us civilians. EOTech introduced the original OGL in 2023, a unit specifically designed for and restricted to law enforcement and military users. That restriction was due to the power of the two OGL lasers.
So EOTech designed the OGL-C with the tactical customer in mind by building the new unit with eye-safe, visible and IR lasers. The OGL-C also features an IR laser aim pointer with adjustable IR illumination. It launched at the 2026 SHOT Show.
According to EOTech, the visible green laser used in the OGL-C is six times easier to see than a red laser.
Viewing the unit from the front, the IR laser exits from the top lens on the left, the visible green laser from the lens directly below. This “stacked” arrangement means zeroing one of the lasers should zero the other, too, though some fine tuning may be required. (More zeroing information below.)
These stacked lasers and the IR Illuminator on the right side are spaced out so that when the OGL-C is mounted on the top rail of a rifle, the three beams shoot out on either side of an open front post sight. No conflicts.
Tethered protective covers go over the laser and IR Illumination apertures.
Atop the unit’s rugged aluminum housing is a lever to adjust the IR illuminator beam from F (flood sized) to S (spot configuration). Behind this and on either side are the elevation adjustments for zeroing both the visible laser and IR aim point, with the FIRE control button. Windage adjustments are found on either side of the housing. Those zeroing adjustments move the point of aim at approximately 0.2 MRAD per click.
The very rear of the OGL-C is home to the mode selector switch, the battery compartment and a jack plug for installing a remote switch.
The OGL-C easily mounts to a rail thanks to EOTech’s Rail Grabber Bracket built into the bottom of the unit, with a locking nut and locking bar. For added stability, there’s a recoil lug forward of the bracket, too. The OGL-C can mount to the sides of an AR-style handguard, but it fits and works best (in this reviewer’s opinion) atop the handguard rail.
The unit runs on one CR123 battery and sells with a multitool that includes two tiny hex wrenches to fit the various components.
Last, the OGL-C is available in a black or tan finish.
I mounted the OGL-C onto a Ruger Harrier AR-15 already equipped with a EOTech EXPS3 Holographic Weapon Sight.
The Harrier is Ruger’s first AR-platform rifle made at the former Anderson Manufacturing in Hebron, Kentucky, which Ruger purchased in July 2025.
Chambered in 5.56 NATO, the Harrier operates on a mid-length gas system. The rifle is an entry model AR-15, reasonably priced, sturdy and a great option for tactical shooters and home defenders alike.
Powered by one CR123 battery, the EXPS3 HWS features EOTech’s one-dot speed ring reticle, a quick detach mount and .50 MOA elevation and windage adjustments. The optic also offers 20 daylight settings. It is night vision compatible with 10 NV settings.
Last, I added an Engaged Industries Operator 5.56 suppressor. The Operator 5.56 featured the company’s patent pending VLB25 baffles. They utilize the company’s Vacuum Expansion technology to restrict the flow of gas and to significantly reduce the reverse flow of gases.
The Operator 5.56 not only allowed me to shoot without hearing protection but also reduced the rifle’s recoil pulse.
The first thing I discovered when I got to my outdoor shooting range: I’d mounted the OGL-C too close to the EXPS3 because I had trouble accessing the rear controls.
No problem, though, as the OGL-C mount easily attaches and disconnects from a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail. Using the included multi-tool, I unscrewed the mount’s locking nut, lifted the unit and moved it forward several inches, making sure the recoil lug was also engaged. Locking nut secured, I was ready.
One can zero the OGL-C by bore sighting. But since I had the HWS already zeroed, I simply placed the HWS reticle on a target and then used the elevation and windage adjustments to move the green laser dot to the reticle center. I then aimed the laser at my target and fired three rounds.
The rounds hit pretty close but required a bit more fine tuning as the HWS reticle was larger than the laser dot.
This shooting occurred in bright sunlight, with the visible laser control set to High-Power. The Low-Power setting worked fine at night and dusk, but that daytime sun required the high setting for easier visibility.
I shot from a rest and accuracy was quite good. But, of course, the whole point of an OGL-C visible laser is to shoot fast, furious and on target while under extreme stress.
With a large silhouette target, I shot offhand and stood at 25 yards and then off one knee. Center mass aiming would’ve stopped any threat at that distance.
Next, I set up new silhouettes and stepped off five yards to the right and then 20 yards out. I felt that shooting from the ground with the silhouettes cock-eyed to me was a better test than me sitting right in front and shooting.
I quickly sat up, the butt of the rifle against the right side of my chest, laser on my target and fired off 10 rounds, making sure my elbows were not resting on my knees. Solid hits.
Then, I lay back on the ground with the length of my body parallel to the target. I rolled forward on my left side, left elbow under me, raised the Harrier and slid the green dot onto my target. I fired eight rounds at the head area. This position produced a tighter group than sitting up and firing, as my left elbow under me provided a fairly solid rest.
I did these shooting positions twice, aiming at 3-inch by -five-inch white note cards taped to the silhouette targets. All shots hit the note cards.
If I’d fallen and couldn’t get up quickly in a life-threatening situation? The OGL-C’s green laser would’ve given me a solid chance to defend myself.
I tested the OGL-C’s IR abilities using a PVS14E 3APW night vision unit made by AGM Global Vision. I used a Wilcox G24 Breakaway NVG Mount to secure the AMG to a Team Wendy lightweight EXFIL SAR Tactical helmet.
At dark, I set up a silhouette target at 35 yards at a friend’s farmland in the country.
With the OGL-C set on High Power for both the IR Aim Laser and the IR Illuminator Laser, I started by scanning the target and the surrounding areas. I used the unit’s IR illuminator beam lever, changing from flood sized to spot configuration, and was sure I could’ve made an accurate shot at 100 yards that night using the aim laser and the spot illumination.
To find out if the visible laser zeroing had also zeroed the IR Aim Laser, I fired five rounds at the center mass of my silhouette target. The rounds hit low a couple of inches but generally on and made a nice group. The NV unit and helmet set up worked well, but I wasn’t used to it; I suspect more practice would put me right on target.
But I didn’t want to take any more shots. Even suppressed, nighttime shooting in the north-central Wisconsin countryside usually brings game wardens in full force, hot after a suspected deer poacher, with a county sheriff’s deputy or two soon joining in.
But even without much shooting, I found the OGL-C’s IR capabilities first-rate especially since I could dial in and out the intensity of the IR Illuminator.
John Bailey, EOTech Vice President of Marketing, felt the OGL-C appealed to a fairly large customer base.
“The OGL-C is designed for anyone looking for an alternate aiming system,” Bailey told Tactical Retailer. “This could be people looking for a home defense option, competitive shooters, and hunters targeting hogs and predators night and day.”
He admitted, though, that it’s tough to demonstrate what the OGL-C can do inside a store during the daytime.
“I think the best thing to focus on is the stacked Visible and IR laser set up, linked to the same windage and elevation adjustments,” Bailey said. “To zero, you simply dial the Visible aiming laser to your primary optic, and the IR is zeroed as well.”
“The other thing to point out to customers is the ergonomic beam divergence slider,” he added. “This makes it easy, whether wearing gloves or in the dark, to dial the IR illuminator from flood to spot.”
To help your establishment with these customers, EOTech can provide its dealers with its YouTube and social media videos, catalogues and data sheets.
“We have over 60 external sales representatives that call on the individual stores,” Bailey explained. “They provide in-store training. We also have a specific OGL-C training module on our Expert Voice account that store clerks can access.”

The OGL-C, it should be noted, is a product regulated under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations or ITAR restrictions. Therefore, any dealers offering the OGL-C will have to abide by ITAR regulations and restrictions.
