20 charged in theft of 1,486 guns from Georgia shipping hubs

October 15, 2026

Federal prosecutors in Georgia say a ring of thieves broke into shipping facilities three times and walked out with 1,486 firearms, including 724 Glock pistols in a single night. Jared Yanis walks through the indictments and argues the case shows where crime guns really come from.

The short version

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Georgia, the thefts hit shipping facilities in Conley and Macon between late November 2025 and January 2026. Prosecutors say some of the stolen guns were sold to undercover ATF agents within days, and others turned up with convicted felons. In May, ATF, the FBI and other agencies searched 12 Atlanta-area locations tied to a gang prosecutors call Goodfellas, seizing about 24 kilograms of methamphetamine, fentanyl and a pill press.

On September 23rd a federal grand jury returned six indictments charging 20 people, five of whom DOJ identifies as gang members. Yanis stresses these are allegations that still must be proven in court. His argument is that background checks, waiting periods and permits would not have stopped any of it.

Key points

  • The thefts: Prosecutors say 724 Glocks were taken from the Conley facility, then 469 and 293 firearms in two later break-ins at Macon.
  • Fast resale: Two of the stolen pistols were allegedly sold to an undercover ATF agent within two days of the first theft.
  • The charges: They include firearms trafficking, theft of interstate shipments, felon in possession and drug trafficking conspiracy.
  • Still at large: Two suspects were reported to be on the run.
  • Open question: Yanis asks how the same facilities were hit repeatedly and whether anyone on the inside knew when shipments arrived.

Bottom line

If the allegations hold, this is a case of criminals stealing guns in bulk, not lawful buyers passing background checks. Expect it to come up whenever theft is used to argue for new limits on lawful owners.
